Remembering Adrian Devine

St Margaretsbury FC Mourns the Loss of Adrian Devine
It is with immense sadness that everyone at St Margaretsbury Football Club has learned of the passing of our dear friend and former player, Adrian Devine, who sadly lost his courageous battle with bowel cancer on Sunday, 7 June 2026.
Adrian was far more than a talented footballer. He was a devoted husband to Michelle, a loving father, an inspirational coach, a loyal teammate and a friend to so many across the local football community. His infectious personality, kindness and unwavering positivity made him someone people naturally gravitated towards, both on and off the pitch.
When Adrian was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer at just 44 years of age on Christmas Eve 2024, he faced the devastating news with incredible bravery and dignity. Rather than retreating from public view, he chose to use his own experience to raise awareness of bowel cancer, encouraging others to recognise the symptoms and seek medical advice early. His message was simple but powerful – early detection saves lives.
In March 2025, the football family came together for a remarkable charity match at St Margaretsbury FC, organised by Tony Smith and supported by countless volunteers, sponsors, former players and friends. The evening was a celebration of Adrian's life, raising funds to support Adrian, Michelle and their young family, while also shining a spotlight on bowel cancer awareness.
One of the most memorable moments from that evening came from Adrian himself, when he thanked everyone for their love and support and urged people never to ignore the warning signs that he himself had initially dismissed. His honesty, courage and determination touched everyone present and inspired countless others beyond the football community.
The overwhelming turnout that night demonstrated exactly what Adrian meant to so many people. Players who had not seen each other for years reunited, lifelong friendships were rekindled and an entire community stood shoulder to shoulder behind one of its own. It was a fitting tribute to a man who had spent so much of his life giving back through football, coaching and supporting others.
Adrian's legacy will not simply be measured by the matches he played or the goals he scored, but by the lives he touched, the friendships he built and the example he set through extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable adversity.
Everyone at St Margaretsbury FC extends our deepest condolences to Michelle, their family and all who knew and loved Adrian. Our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.
Adrian's memory will live on in the club he loved, in the many young players he inspired, and in every person who chooses to get checked because of the awareness he worked so hard to promote.
Rest in peace, Adrian. You will forever remain part of the St Margaretsbury family, and you will never be forgotten. 💙⚽
